At Parkway Dentistry in Brantford, we administer sedation medication to help alleviate the anxiety of our dental patients. We provide sedation through nitrous oxide, through oral medication and through IV (intravenous). Sedation is great for both adults and children patients whom prefer a totally relaxing and stress free experience while undergoing certain procedures.
Why Choose Sedation?
One of the biggest fears that many patients have is going through any form of dental surgery – whether it be a major or minor procedure. This fear can be so overwhelming and can be triggered by any procedure from getting a needle and fear of the drill to getting a filling, getting dental implants, or going through a root canal.
It truly doesn’t matter how simple or serious the procedure is, if sedation calms you down, and helps you enjoy your experience at the dentist, it’s definitely right for you.
What Are My Sedation Options?
At Parkway Dentistry we provide the three most safe and popular sedation options, these options include:
- Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous oxide is commonly referred to as laughing gas. This is an entry level type of sedation that is effective for patients with minimal anxiety, and is an excellent choice for children whom fear the dentist.
- Oral Sedation: Oral sedation is the act of administering sedation medication through the mouth and is similar to valium (Diazepam). Oral sedation can be administered in conjunction with nitrous oxide and is extremely effective for people with a higher levels of anxiety.
- IV Sedation: IV sedation is the highest level of conscious sedation that is offered, and is recommended for our more involved surgical procedures such as dental implant surgery, bone and gum grafts and wisdom teeth extraction. IV sedation is an excellent treatment option for people with higher levels of anxiety and allows the patient to be much more comfortable with little to no memory of the procedure after the sedation drug wears off.
