Oral Examinations & Dental Checkups

We provide oral examinations, digital X-rays, dental checkups and teeth cleanings for all new patients in Brantford. We spend the extra time with our patients to ensure we provide a thorough and detailed examination which includes examining jaw function, a smile analysis, teeth analysis, and a gum and bone examination.

Dental exams and cleaningsTreatment plans at our office are very detailed and based on immediate treatments, or treatments that can be deferred to a later time.

The Examination Procedure

During your exam, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums for signs of tooth decay, gum disease and other health problems. Your dentist may also want to take X-rays to see what is happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums.

Whether these X-rays are traditional or digital, the images provided will help your dentist discover dental issues not visible to the naked eye.

When we do our examination, we focus on 4 primary areas:

Function: we look at your overall mouth function; the TMJs, your muscles and your bite

Smile Analysis: we do a detailed smile analysis based on your photos, we take measurements, and we also look at the shape of your teeth

Teeth Examination: we look for issues such as cavities, fillings that are breaking down, or worn and decaying teeth

Gum & Bone Analysis: we do a detailed examination of the gum and bone levels, and pocket levels in your gums surrounding your teeth.

Related Dental Services

At the end of your examination we go over all the findings with you based on those 4 areas. We’ll provide a detailed breakdown of our findings, go over your pictures and x-rays, and we’ll inform you as to your treatment options.

Why Do A Dental Exam

The health of your teeth and mouth is very important to the well-being of your entire body, and while routine brushing and flossing at home is necessary to keep your smile looking its best, visiting our dental office for a comprehensive exam and cleaning is essential.

The Canadian Dental Association recommends that you visit your dentist every six months to ensure your teeth stay healthy and your smile stays beautiful.

If Dr. Pio Modi, Dr. Malik, Dr. Gao, Dr. Margel, or your hygienist finds tooth decay or gum disease, they will talk to you about changing your brushing or flossing habits. In severe cases, they may recommend antibiotics or other dental treatments.

If your teeth and gums appear to be healthy, our dentists will probably recommend that you continue your brushing and flossing routine as usual.

A typical brushing should take around two to three minutes. We encourage our patients to floss two times a day or after eating.

By providing you with a detailed and comprehensive examination, we’ll be able to help you achieve optimal oral health which is related to your overall health.
